THE REFUGEE NEED

Over 800,000 people (20 percent of the population) in Iraq live in refugee camps due to the wars in the region. In Darashakran, more than 75 percent of children between the ages of 12 and 17 were not enrolled in the formal education system.

Studies have found that the prevalence of psychological illness is relatively high in refugee groups and that present Quality of Life (QOL) may be the most significant factor in psychological illness and stress related disorders; 21 percent of females between 15-19 years are currently married in Iraq, and child marriage is worse among refugees and IDPs.
