The Iraqi Foundation for Sport + Peace is a UK-registered charity raising money to:
Supply sporting goods to schools, refugee camps and recreation centres with money and equipment, such as footballs, racquets, balls, boots and track shoes to engage youth in sports, specifically tennis, football and long-distance running.
Provide first class international coaching to teams in the Kurdistan Region.
Lobby for and support newly built fields, courts and buildings for sport.
Increase delivery of sports throughout Iraq by organising tournaments and competitions.
The foundation supports three programs: Darashakran Run Club, Peshmega Park Tennis Team and Choman Ski Club, ambitious, challenging and newsworthy endeavors formed and overseen by an experienced international team of seasoned adventurers from the US, Britain, and Kurdistan. As a rebuilding and reforming country with unexplored terrain and potential, there exist unique opportunities for companies to get involved.
The Iraqi Foundation for Sport + Peace aims to
1.Raise awareness of the physical, psychological and community benefits of sport.
2.Ensure that girls and women have access to sport and encourage them to fully participate.
3.Provide an opportunity for people of all backgrounds and regions in Iraq to work together and show the international community Iraq’s commitment to peace and non-violence
4.Educate young people, especially marginalized communities and refugees about opportunities through sports and provide them with an alternative to radical idealism, substance abuse or other adolescent harms.
To give money, go to the Darashakran Run Club Just Giving Page or the Peshmerga Park Tennis Team or contact Adrian Brune at ambrune@gmail.com for a donation of lightly used running shoes, clothes and other gear.
